South Florida Christian Hardcore Demos
Hi. I haven't made a post here in over two years. I've been a little busy with turning my distro into a full time endeavor ... which I then turned into opening a brick and mortar store (and venue ... and museum).
The store has been very time consuming but also very fun. It's given me the opportunity to meet people who despite living in the same city for several decades managed to never officially cross paths. One of those guys (Dave) has been into my store more than most and always has some hardcore trivia both to contribute and to inquire about. Making new friends and talking hardcore has definitely been what has made opening the store worth all of the paperwork and overhead expenses and tax bullshit as opposed to when I was just casually swapping out records out of my basement.
Dave brought in some cassette demos which I had never seen (or, in one case, even heard of) and asked if I would be able to digitize them as he is a smart man and collects CDs as opposed to cassettes and no longer had a player.
I said sure. I have to upload the files somewhere to get them to him. I figured I might as well knock the dust off of this blog so people know I'm still alive and post about it here.
These are both some 1995 Earth Crisis-inspired, South Florida Christian Hardcore with all of the insane lyrics and intense energy you would expect from the description. Set Apart would go on to release a 7" and a split with another South Florida band by the name of Chalice ... who actually was comprised of members of Overthrow (who I had never even heard of prior to Dave bringing these in). I am fairly certain this was the only release from Overthrow ... well, at least THIS Overthrow as I believe there are several other Hardcore Overthrows from this decade.
Overall these are both actually pretty solid releases and considering I've had the Set Apart demo on my Discogs want list for a while now it was all worth the effort of having my original USB cassette deck breaking halfway through, getting stood up for almost 6 months by a studio guy who said he was going to do this for me and then going out and acquiring a new USB dual cassette deck.
Enjoy and maybe I'll make some more posts now that I remember this thing exists!
